Description |
This quilted textile shows the history of the Sulphur Springs Camp Meeting held in 1820. The meeting was part of a larger movement of religious revival or "Great Awakening" in the United States starting in the 1700s. The fabric is screen-printed with images of the congregation, building, and hymns on the margins. It was commissioned by the Center of Excellence for Appalachian Studies and Services (CASS) as part of the Tennessee Homecoming in 1986. The site of the camp is now part of the National Register of Historic Places (reference number: 75001796) and is associated with Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church in Jonesborough, Tennessee. |
