"Blue Angel" is an artwork that was created by Sammie L. Nicely in 2001. The central image of this artwork is a large angel in the foreground with a vibrant blue background. The angel has dark brown skin, which is only visible on the face and neck. There is an additional disembodied arm in the bottom right corner. The angel is wearing a yellow headpiece or headwrap with a repeating square pattern that wraps around the angel's head. The angel's eyes are blue and they have an elongated nose and a closed mouth. There is a light blue teardrop shape (with three prongs protruding from the narrow end) surrounding each of the eyes; the left eye's teardrop is pointing upward, while the right eye's teardrop is pointing downward. There is a five-layered rainbow across the left cheek, extending from the side of the face to the side of the nose. The angel is robed in a colorful garment that depicts many varied faces, figures, and disembodied eyes. The garment features many shades of greens, blues, and browns. The angel also has multi-colored wings that are spread and visible behind the angel's figure. The interior portion of the wing is a vibrant shade of orange with blended shades of blue and purple. The exterior borders of the wings are a white-gray color with many thin, repeating lines and shading. There are multiple disembodied faces, figures, and abstract shapes surrounding the angel amidst the vibrant blue background. The artwork is surrounded by a white mat and a black frame. "Sammie Nicely / 2001" is signed in the bottom right corner. |
