Description |
This quilt is called "Tennessee Iris" and was made by Dorothy Garrett uses the Mountain Mist design by Margaret Hayes (pattern #4) from 1930. The rectangular quilt has a white background an appliquéd design of staggered rows of iris flowers surrounded by two green borders around the edges. The flowers are two-toned with a lighter color on the top two petals and a darker color on the bottom two. The flowers have combinations of yellow-orange, red-burgundy, lilac-purple, pink-red, and baby blue petals. The iris is Tennessee's state flower. Stearns & Foster Co. manufactured Mountain Mist batting, which often came with a free mystery quilting pattern within the wrapping. Historical and contemporary patterns could also be mail-ordered or acquired by buying a book of them. |
