Description |
"Details from the Ongoing Epic" 13/50. #5 of 30 prints included in the 1995 Tempe Suite. Lithograph made using reductive techniques and touche washes. This print features several human (or human-like) figures—some are silhouettes or dark shadows, some are naked or partially-clothed bodies. In the bottom right corner, two raised hands are visible as well. A swirling cloud or form of some sort encompasses the right side of the image, with a row of shadow-people standing on top in a line. Below this cloud/form, two naked bodies are sitting on a structure. This print is multi-colored and features hues of brown, red, yellow, blue, and purple. Details from the Ongoing Epic is included in the 1995 Tempe Suite. The Tempe Suite was created by students and/or graduates of Arizona State University in the 1980s and early 1990s who went on to become printmakers and instructors in various countries, including the United States and Canada. The suite's clamshell portfolio box was built by the Bradley University Library Special Collections book arts program in Peoria, Illinois. This lithograph was made using reductive techniques and touche washes. Sydney Cross earned her MFA from Arizona State University in 1980. Cross is recognized as an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Art at Clemson University, and has participated in numerous national portfolio exchanges since 1995. Cross earned the award of Printmaker Emeritus by Southern Graphics International in 2017. Her works have been collected by the Gertrude Herbert Institute, Kennedy Museum of American Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Memorial Art Gallery, Nelson Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. |
