Description |
This mixed media piece is of a portrait painted on a rectangular tin cut out. As with many of Willie's other works, the wooden frame he created functions as part of the overall composition. Burnt orange tin is inlaid the wooden frame. Painted on the tin is a portrait of a Black subject wearing a buttoned yellow top and an orange bucket hat. The subject is painted with aqua colored hair and blue-gray eyeshadow. It is framed within the tin by a deep brown/red painted backdrop which is speckled with multicolored dots. On the left cheek of the subject there is texture created with dents in the tin (Willie often created textures on his metal pieces with a hammer). In the lower right portion of the portrait, the artist's signature is visible as, "willie, willie." |
