Artist: The Plague Doctors Covid-19 mask is designed to be worn to protect from all sorts of attacks. These include from virus Covid-19, anti-science rioters, rain, wing, rocks, tornados (at least the head) and other dangers. The mask also protects against identity theft. It has, under the nose piece, a port or hole through which a tube or straw can be placed by which liquids can be supplied to the wearer during riots. Plague Doctors Covid-19 Mask is my contemporary take on the Medieval Plague Mask that was worn during the black plague. I have seen pictures of one and it has a long beak, googly eyes and seems to be made out dark leather. I have thought about how that mask might and been used to keep somebody safe during those plague years. Maybe the nose was stuffed with potent herbs and potions. Nose gay anyone? It might has scared the plague vapors out of someone. The image of a cloaked doctor shuffling down a narrow dark street by torch light in the beaked mask is quite creepy. The suggestions and orders to wear a mask during ongoing pandemic creates an opportunity to make and wear This is the first time during my life has it been encouraged. Most masks that are seen are rather boring. This seemed to be the perfect time to let fantasy reign supreme. I decided to let a little bit of Johnny Appleseed by using a beat-up pot for the base, a dishwasher strainer for the face mask and red yarn for the neck cover giving it the feel of Gladiators Helmet. |
