Description |
This is a paper dress. The dress is upper to mid thigh length with no sleeves and the neckline goes above the collar bone. The dress is white with green zebra-striped design. The tag reads: "Petite Paper by Paper Ware, LTD Baltimore, MD. Fire-Resistant unless washed or dry cleaned." The paper dress was created by the Scott Paper company in April 1966 to promote their line of colorful paper. The trend quickly grew to other companies. Mars of Asheville launched a paper fashion line in June 1966 under the label Wast Basket Boutique. Paper fashion was very popular and lines for men and lines for formal wear soon appeared. In Spring 1967, Campbell soup even made dresses with advertisements inspired by designs of Andy Warhol. In 1968, dresses were even made for the presidential campaign. By the end of the 1960s into the 1970s, the trend died out not only because of the lack of practicality and comfort but due to environmentalist concern for the abundance of consumer waste. |
