Description |
Framed mixed media artwork, presumably a doll, made of fabric and found objects and/or metal pieces by Sammie L. Nicely. The doll appears to be a woman wearing a dress and matching headpiece. The dress and headpiece are comprised of two alternating fabrics: one is blue and white (and appears to be hand-dyed, matching other Nicely fabric pieces in the collection), while one is an alternating orange and green pattern with small purple, swirling designs overlayed on both colors. The figure has purple and blue eyelids, a purple nose, and red lips. Her face stylistically resembles many of the Nicely masks that we have in the collection. The metal pieces, buttons, and other found objects function as ornamental pieces fashioned to the dress. She is wearing a metal piece at the collar, three buttons down the torso, and has pieces attached at her waistline and the cuffs of her sleeves. The doll is bordered by a black mat and is framed in a wooden frame that is painted gold. |
