Description |
This sculpture is a feminine fertility figure, likely representing Astarte, a goddess of war, beauty, and hunting in Syro-Hittite and associated Mesopotamian cultures. The goddess's hands are held at her breasts. She is wearing a three-dimensional necklace and a rounded headdress, but she is flat along her backside. Her legs taper down until they almost reach a point. There is a large divot in her abdomen that may represent her navel. Her head is round, and she has large eyes and slightly curved nose, similar to an owl. There are two holes on either side of the headdress. |
