Description |
This sculpture is a female fertility figure, likely the goddess Astarte of war and sexual love. Its tapered arms extend from side to side. It wears a wide necklace, a narrow girdle, and a squared headdress. A hole in the front torso represents the navel. The head has two large round eyes with divots, similar to a bird. The sculpture is of Syro-Hittite origin from 1500-1800 B.C. |
