This lute has a two-toned back made out of light and dark wood ribs. The body is a teardrop shape. Around the oval soundhole are decorations of separated floral clusters on the surface of the wood. Above the wooden bridge is a 2-dimensional snake wrapped around a tree branch. It appears as though the bridge has been adjusted and re-glued multiple times.

1970.001.320 - Banjo
This is a hand-crafted fretless banjo made from pine wood. This banjo was featured by the Reece Museum's "Sing Along with Appalachia" exhibition from 1969-1970. It was then donated to the Reece Museum's permanent collection by instrument collector and Appalachian music enthusiast Nat T. Winston Jr. in 1970. The exact date of this banjo's creation is unknown, but it is estimated that this banjo dates to the early twentieth century.

This is dulcimer #1055 made by Robert "Bob" R. Mize of the Mize Dulcimer Company in Blountville, Tennessee. This is a Kentucky-style dulcimer in an elongated hourglass pattern. The dulcimer features four strings with extra string slots in the nut and the bridge. It also has 13 and 1/2 frets. The head is hand carved into the shape of an eagle's shoulder and head.
